If you want a small crossover for getting around Dubai without paying crossover money, the Chevrolet Groove 2023 is the honest answer, and we rent it with payment sorted however suits you on delivery: card, cash, bank transfer, or a wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay. We bring it to your door in Dubai inside an hour or two, no need to settle anything before it arrives. It seats five, gives you a higher seat than a hatchback, and runs on a modest 1.5-litre automatic. This page is about whether that trade, low rate and easy size against a gentle engine and a plain cabin, is the right one for your week.
The Groove is a subcompact crossover, so think of it as a tall hatchback with a better view out and a bit more boot. The 1.5-litre four makes 105 horsepower through a CVT automatic to the front wheels, and that's the whole story on power. It's enough to keep up with city traffic and merge onto a busy road, but it isn't quick, and you'll notice it when the car is loaded with people and bags. Front-wheel drive only, so this is a road car. There's no all-wheel grip for soft sand, and the 160 mm of clearance is tuned for kerbs and ramps, not dunes.

| Ground clearance | 160 mm |
At 4.22 metres long the Groove is short enough to slot into the bays that defeat a midsize SUV. Marina towers and the older mall car parks have those narrow spaces and steep spiral ramps, and a car this size handles them without the breath-holding. The 160 mm clearance clears mall ramps and standard speed bumps with room to spare, so you're not crawling over every hump. The higher seating helps in two ways: you see over traffic better than in a small hatch, and getting in and out is easier on the knees. U-turns are tidy thanks to the short body. It's one of the simpler cars to place in a tight spot that we rent in this bracket.
A Dubai summer is the real test of any rental, and the Groove's cabin is small, which works in its favour here. After a car sits in the sun and the interior is genuinely hot, the air conditioning takes a few minutes of running on full to push the temperature down to comfortable, and the compact cabin means there's less air to cool than in a big SUV. The front vents do the work well. There are no dedicated rear vents, so back-seat passengers rely on the air pushing through from the front, which is fine for two adults on city hops and less ideal on a long, full run in peak heat. Park in shade when you can, drop the windows for ten seconds first to dump the worst of the heat, and it settles quickly.
The boot holds 320 litres, which in practice is one large suitcase plus a couple of soft bags, or a decent grocery run for a family. For an airport pickup at DXB or DWC with two people and their cases, it's comfortable. Add a third and fourth passenger with their own luggage and you'll be folding a seat or packing light, because the boot fills fast once the bags are hard cases. Drop the rear seats and you get up to 1,120 litres, enough for flat-pack furniture or a weekend's worth of gear when you're travelling with one or two people. For a family that needs four full suitcases and the seats up, this is the point where a larger crossover earns its keep.
Around town the Groove is in its element. Light steering, easy size, and a smooth-enough automatic make the school run, the supermarket trip, and the daily commute genuinely undemanding. On Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 it cruises fine at the limit, but the 105 hp engine and CVT mean overtaking takes planning rather than a quick stab of the throttle, especially with a full car. Push it hard above 100 and it gets vocal without getting much faster. For fuel, the official 6.6 L/100km is realistic for steady city driving, and the 45-litre tank gives you a usable range close to 680 km, so a normal week of errands needs roughly one fill. Remember Salik tolls and any RTA fines pass to you as the renter, seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a child seat.
Rent the Groove if you're one or two people, or a small family, who want a cheap, easy, higher-riding car for city life in Dubai. It parks anywhere, sips fuel, and the low rate is the whole point. The cabin is basic and the engine is mild, and we'd rather you know that than be surprised. If you regularly carry four adults with luggage, plan to spend real time at highway speed, or want a more finished interior and stronger pull, step up to a Hyundai Creta or Kia Seltos and pay for the extra capability. For everyone whose week is mostly errands, the daily commute, and the occasional airport run with light bags, the Groove does the job and leaves money in your pocket.
