Most of the time you'll drive the Chevrolet Captiva 2024 as a roomy five-seat crossover, and twice a week you'll be glad it hides two more seats in the floor. That part-time seventh and sixth seat is the whole reason this car exists, and getting it right is the difference between a smart booking and a frustrated one. We deliver the Captiva across Dubai within one to two hours, rent it from age 18 where much of the market starts at 21, and offer a no-deposit plan alongside the standard option. Our recommendation up front: book it as a flexible family five-seater that can stretch to seven on short trips, not as a full-time people-mover.
The 1.5-litre turbo four makes 149 hp and 230 Nm through a CVT to the front wheels, which is adequate rather than quick. Around town and on errands the CVT keeps things smooth and the torque is enough to merge without drama. Load all the seats and ask for a brisk overtake on Sheikh Zayed Road and you'll hear the engine work for it. For cruising the E11 at the limit it's settled and comfortable; it's loaded acceleration where the modest output shows, and if outright pull matters to you, that's a reason to look at a bigger SUV.
Fuel is the strong suit. The official figure runs from about 9 to 14 km per litre depending on how much highway you do, and the 52-litre tank gives a combined range near 800 km, so a typical city week of school runs and errands means one fill, maybe two if you're doing daily airport hops. Real Dubai driving sits at the thirstier end once the AC runs hard all day, but the range stays comfortable.

This is the decision the whole rental turns on. The Captiva is a five-seat crossover with two extra seats folded into the floor, and they earn their place for short hops: a couple of cousins to dinner, kids to a birthday across town, an occasional sixth and seventh passenger you didn't plan for. Pop them up for the trip, fold them flat the rest of the week.
Where it strains is the all-adult, all-day scenario. Put grown-ups in the third row for a real journey and they'll feel the squeeze in legroom and shoulders, and the boot behind them shrinks to almost nothing. The honest rule is seven people or a boot full of luggage, rarely both at once. If your group is regularly four or more adults travelling with bags, this isn't your car; a proper seven-seat SUV with a usable rear bench is. If you never need more than five seats, a five-seat crossover gives you the same drive with more boot for a lower rate.
With the third row folded the Captiva swallows a genuine family load: two large cases plus soft bags, a stroller and the week's shopping without a fight. That's the configuration most renters will actually live in, and at 4.67 metres it stays an easy mid-size to handle rather than a tank.
Raise the third row and the maths flips. You gain two seats and lose the cargo floor, so a full seven-up airport run with everyone's suitcases simply doesn't work. For a DXB or DWC pickup with a large group, plan on people in the back and bags on laps, or a second trip. For five people and luggage, it's comfortable all week.
Cooling a seven-seat cabin parked in 45-degree sun is more work than cooling a hatch, and the Captiva manages it reasonably. The front vents pull the front rows down to comfortable within a few minutes, and rear vents help the back catch up, though a full third row on the hottest afternoons takes longer to settle. Crack the windows for the first thirty seconds before you set off and it copes fine.
At 4.67 metres it's a mid-size SUV, so Marina ramps, multi-storey bays and mall parking are manageable with a little care on the tighter U-turns. The 180 mm of clearance takes Dubai's speed bumps and steep mall ramps without scraping, which is more than some low crossovers manage. It's a road car, though, front-wheel drive only, so keep it on tarmac rather than Hatta trails or dune tracks. A few basics worth stating plainly: Salik tolls and any RTA fines run to you as the renter, belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a child seat, which we can fit on request.
Rent the Captiva 2024 if you're a family of two adults plus kids who wants the safety net of two extra seats for occasional short trips, without paying big-SUV money to get them. For that buyer it's roomy with the rear seats down, easy to park, light on fuel, and available from 18. If you're regularly carrying four or more adults with luggage, or you want real punch on the highway, step up to a larger seven-seat SUV. And if you never need more than five seats, a five-seat crossover will give you more boot for less. Booked for what it actually is, a cheap and practical part-time seven-seater, the Captiva is hard to beat in its class.
