If you need seven seats for a Dubai week but can't justify a full-size SUV, the Chevrolet Captiva 2024 is the cheapest sensible way to get them. We rent it from age 18, where most of the market won't hand you anything before 21, and we'll bring it to your door in Dubai within one to two hours. That covers the booking. The real question is whether the Captiva is the right seven-seater for you, or whether your trip actually calls for something bigger or smaller. This is a budget crossover wearing a third row, and that decides almost everything about who should book it.
Think of the Captiva as a five-seat crossover that hides two extra seats in the floor. For two adults, two or three kids, and a normal week of school runs, mall trips, and the odd airport collection, it fits and it drives easily. The third row earns its place when you occasionally need to carry more people on short hops, a couple of cousins to dinner, kids to a birthday across town. Pop those seats up for the trip, fold them flat the rest of the time.
Where it struggles is the all-adult, all-week scenario. Put grown-ups in the third row for a real journey and they'll feel the squeeze in legroom and shoulder space, and the boot behind them shrinks to almost nothing. If your group is four or more adults travelling with luggage, this isn't your car. Size up to a proper seven-seat SUV with a usable rear bench. If you never need more than five seats, a regular five-seat crossover gives you the same drive with more boot and a lower rate.
With the third row folded, the Captiva swallows a genuine family load: 847 litres of boot means two large cases plus soft bags, a stroller, and the week's shopping without a fight. That's the configuration most renters will actually use.
Raise the third row and the maths flips. You gain two seats and lose the cargo floor, so a full seven-up airport run with everyone's suitcases doesn't work. The honest split is this: seven people or a boot full of luggage, rarely both at once. For DXB or DWC pickups with a large group, plan on people in the back and bags on laps, or a second trip. For five people and luggage, it's comfortable all week.

The 1.5 turbo is adequate, not quick. Around town and on errands the CVT keeps things smooth and the torque is enough to merge without drama. Load all seven seats and ask for a brisk overtake on Sheikh Zayed Road and you'll hear the engine work for it. For E11 cruising at the limit it's settled and comfortable; it's the loaded acceleration where the modest output shows. If outright pull matters to you, that's another reason to consider a bigger SUV.
On fuel it's the strong point. Real Dubai driving sits a little above the official 7.1 to 7.7 L/100km once the AC runs hard, but the 52-litre tank still gives you a comfortable working range. A typical city week of school runs and errands means one fill, maybe two if you're doing daily airport hops. Our rate includes 250 km a day, and anything beyond that is one dirham per extra kilometre, which is generous enough that most renters never touch the ceiling.
Cooling a seven-seat cabin parked in 45-degree sun is more work than cooling a small hatch, and the Captiva handles it reasonably. The front vents pull the front rows down to comfortable within a few minutes, and rear vents help the back seats catch up, though a full third row on the hottest afternoons takes longer to settle. Crack the windows for the first thirty seconds before you set off and it copes fine.
At 4.67 metres it's a mid-size SUV, not a tank, so Marina ramps, multi-storey bays and mall parking are manageable with a bit of care on the tighter U-turns. The 176 mm clearance clears Dubai's speed bumps and steep mall ramps without scraping, which is more than some low crossovers manage. This is a road car, though, front-wheel drive only, so keep it on tarmac. It's not built for dune tracks or Hatta trails.
A few Dubai basics worth stating plainly: Salik tolls and any RTA fines run to you as the renter, seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a child seat, which we can fit on request.
Rent the Captiva 2024 if you're a family of two adults plus kids who wants the safety net of two extra seats for occasional short trips, and you'd rather not pay big-SUV money to get them. For that buyer it's roomy, easy to park, light on fuel and available from 18. If you're regularly carrying four or more adults with luggage, or you want real punch on the highway, step up to a larger seven-seat SUV. And if you never need more than five seats, a five-seat crossover will give you more boot for less. Booked for what it actually is, a cheap and practical part-time seven-seater, the Captiva is hard to beat in its class.
