Chevrolet Captiva 2023 - start from 166 AED / day

If you want occasional third-row seats without the running cost of a full-size SUV, the Chevrolet Captiva 2023 is one of the cheaper ways to do it in Dubai, and we hand the keys to drivers from age 18 when most of the market won't rent to you until 21. We deliver it across the city in a couple of hours, on a debit card or cash if that's easier than a big credit hold. The real question this page settles is simple: is a budget seven-seat crossover the right call for your family week, or are you better off sizing up or down?

What the Captiva 2023 actually is

This is a five-plus-two crossover, not a proper three-row SUV. The first two rows are genuinely usable for adults. The third row folds out of the boot floor and works for kids on short hops, school runs, a cousin or two from the airport, but nobody over about twelve will thank you for an hour back there. Think of those rear seats as occasional, not daily.

The engine is a small 1.5-litre turbo four driving the front wheels through a CVT automatic. It moves a loaded car around town fine and settles into a relaxed cruise, but it's modest. Floor it to overtake on Sheikh Zayed Road with seven aboard and the CVT lets the revs flare before the speed follows. You learn to plan your gaps rather than rely on a shove of power, which is a fair trade for a family crossover at this rate.

Does my family and luggage fit

With the third row up, the boot behind it is small, enough for a few soft bags or the weekly shop, not a stack of hard cases. So the honest layout is this: five people and a real boot, or seven people and almost no boot. If you're collecting four passengers and their suitcases from the airport, you'll be choosing between bodies and bags. Fold the third row flat and the load space opens right up, which is how most renters actually use the car most of the week.

For two adults, two kids and a week of mall and beach runs, the Captiva has room to spare. For four adults plus airport luggage, it's tight, and you should look at a larger SUV. For five with normal bags and only the rare need for two extra seats, this is the car the segment is built for.

Heat, cooling and the long haul

A black cabin in a Dubai car park in July climbs past anything comfortable, and the Captiva's AC takes a few minutes of driving with the fans up before it genuinely cools a soaked interior. Crack the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the hot air and it gets there faster. Rear passengers get vents, which matters with kids in the back two rows on a longer drive up the coast.

The 52-litre tank stretches a long way here because most family driving is gentle city work, not full-throttle highway. Expect around 9 to 10 litres per 100km in real mixed Dubai use, so a tank covers most of a normal week of errands and school runs before you think about a fill.

Parking, speed bumps and city size

At 4.67 metres long it's a mid-size body, not a compact, so tight multi-storey bays and a packed Marina ramp need a bit of care, though nothing the rear camera and sensors don't handle. The 176mm of ground clearance clears community speed bumps and mall entry ramps without scraping, and gives you a slightly higher seat than a hatch for the school-gate view. It's front-wheel drive, so this is a paved-roads and graded-track car, not a dune machine. Keep it to the highway, the suburbs and the airport runs and it's well within its comfort zone.

Standard Dubai rules apply on top of the rental: Salik tolls run on your account, any RTA fines reach you, and seatbelts are required in every row with a proper child seat for under-fours. Worth knowing before you load all seven seats.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Captiva 2023 if you're a family of five who occasionally needs two more seats and wants to keep the weekly cost down, especially if a young driver in the group has been turned away elsewhere for being under 21. It does the school run, the mall, the beach and the airport without drama, and it's cheap to feed.

Step up to a full three-row SUV like a Kia Sorento if you regularly carry seven people with luggage, or want real pulling power on the highway. Step down to a five-seat crossover if those back two seats would never get used, since you'll gain a bigger boot for the same kind of drive. But for the specific job of cheap, occasional seven-seat family transport in Dubai, the Captiva is the sensible pick, and we can have one at your door this afternoon.
