Rent the Chevrolet Captiva 2023 in Dubai and the number worth reading first isn't the daily rate, it's the mileage line: 5,000 km included across the whole rental, not per day, then AED 1 for every kilometre after that. That's a block big enough to cover a normal week of school runs and errands and still leave room for a proper trip out of the city, without doing sums at every fuel stop. We deliver the car to your door, usually within one to two hours of booking, and you'll need to be 21 to collect the keys. This page settles one thing: how far that mileage actually stretches, and whether the seven seats sitting behind it are the right shape for your trip.
Most economy SUVs in this city cap you by the day, something like 250 km, and punish you for saving distance up and spending it later. The Captiva's 5,000 km is pooled for the whole rental, which changes how you plan a trip rather than just a commute. A week of city driving, the office, the school gate, a couple of mall runs, rarely adds up to more than 400 or 500 km. That leaves well over 4,000 km sitting unused, easily enough for a Hatta loop and back, a run down to Al Ain, or a weekend push up to Ras Al Khaimah, with plenty left over.
The trade is the overage rate. AED 1 per extra kilometre is on the steeper side next to rivals charging half that, so the deal rewards people who actually use the block rather than those who'll barely leave the city limits. If your week is pure Dubai driving with no road trip planned, a car with a smaller daily allowance and a cheaper overage rate might work out about the same. If you've got a genuine trip out of town in mind, the Captiva's pooled 5,000 km is the better math, because you're not resetting a clock every midnight.
The Captiva is sold as a genuine three row, seven seat SUV, and that's the other reason people land on this page before a longer trip. Two children manage the third row without complaint on a run to Hatta or across town. Two adults will fold into it for a short stretch and then start asking when the next stop is. Treat it as a five seat SUV with two occasional seats, not a bus that happens to hold seven grown adults comfortably for hours.
The middle row does the real work. Three kids fit across it, or two adults with proper space, and it slides forward when the third row needs the extra room. Up front, two adults sit high with a clear view over the traffic, which is most of what people are paying for when they choose an SUV over a sedan for a road trip.
Boot space is where a seven seater always forces a choice, and it matters more once you're actually driving somewhere. With all three rows up there's room for one mid-size bag, not a family's worth of luggage. Fold the third row down and the boot opens out to a genuinely useful load, around 666 litres, enough for the weekend's cases if you're travelling as five rather than seven. This car does seven people or a full boot more comfortably than both together.

The 147 hp turbo four is modest for a car this size. Loaded with a family and bags, it gets onto Sheikh Zayed Road without drama but doesn't have much left in reserve for a quick overtake, and it settles into a steady cruise rather than rushing when you point it at Hatta or Al Ain.
Chevrolet's own combined figure sits near 16 km per litre, which is a lab result. A loaded Captiva in Dubai traffic with the AC working hard is realistically closer to 10 or 11, and the 52-litre tank still covers a solid day's driving before you need to stop, maybe two fuel stops across a week that includes a trip out of the city. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility, worth remembering on a day that crosses several toll gates on the way out of town.
Heat is the part a bigger cabin makes harder. Leave the Captiva parked in the sun for a few hours and there's a lot of air to pull back down once you climb back in, so give the AC a couple of minutes before everyone gets in rather than expecting it cold immediately. The front seats cool fastest. The third row lags behind, which matters if that's where the kids end up sitting on the way to Hatta. Start the engine and let the system run while you load the boot, and it stops being an issue by the time you're merging onto the highway.
Rent the Captiva if you're a family of four or five planning a week that mixes city driving with one real trip out of Dubai, and you want the mileage room to do that without watching the odometer. The pooled 5,000 km suits exactly that pattern, the middle row is genuinely good for three, and the price sits well below a full-size seven-seat SUV.
Two things to be honest about before you book. It's front-wheel drive, not the four-wheel drive an SUV shape suggests, and with 180 mm of clearance it handles speed bumps and mall ramps cleanly but has no business off tarmac. And if your trip means seven people with full luggage every day rather than the occasional third-row passenger, size up to a larger SUV where the back row and the boot both survive a full load at once. You'll need to be 21 to take the keys, and we can have the Captiva at your door within one to two hours.
