This is the grand tourer you take the wheel of yourself, not the car you settle into the back of, and that single fact decides whether it suits your week in Dubai. The grand tourer you drive yourself

The 2025 car is the new generation, and it retires the old W12 for good. In its place sits a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 tied to an electric motor, 771 hp combined, a colossal 1,000 Nm, an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive. It reaches 100 km/h in about 3.2 seconds and runs to 335 km/h, so the outright pace is there. The pace isn't the reason to book it, though. What you're paying for is the way it covers distance: a huge, quiet shove of torque, a cabin milled from real metal, wood and hand-stitched leather, and the sense that the road ahead has been smoothed out for you.

Where it sits against its stablemates matters more than any single figure. A Rolls-Royce Cullinan or a chauffeur is the answer if the back seat is where you plan to spend the week. A Bentley Bentayga is the one to take if you need SUV space and proper rear seats. The Continental GT is the driver's car of the three, the one you rent for the pleasure of steering it yourself, and that is its whole argument.

Two-plus-two, and a boot to plan around

Read the seat count honestly. This is a 2+2, so the two front seats are the event and the two behind are occasional. They'll take a couple of kids or an adult on a short hop across town, but nobody tall is spending a long run back there in comfort. If four adults need to travel together all week, this is the wrong Bentley.

The boot is the other limit. It holds around 260 litres, small even for a grand tourer, partly because the hybrid battery sits at the back. In practice that's one large case and a soft bag for a DXB or DWC airport run, not a family's holiday luggage. Pack light and it's fine for two. Turn up with three big cases and you'll be stacking them on the rear seats. For a luggage-heavy trip, a Bentayga or a full-size sedan makes far more sense.

The V8, the electric miles, and July heat

Sheikh Zayed Road is where this car makes its case. The V8 carries so much mid-range that an overtake is a single squeeze and it's done, and at 120 km/h the car is barely working, the cabin close to hushed. Charge the battery overnight and the first stretch of morning errands can run on electric power alone, silent and smooth, before the V8 stirs. Left to petrol, expect somewhere around 12 litres per 100 km, and more if you lean on it, so the plug is worth using in the city.

Mind the ride height. A Continental GT sits low, and Dubai is full of aggressive speed bumps and steep mall ramps that a car like this will kiss if you take them square and quick. The air suspension lifts the nose, but the safe habit is to slow right down and cross ramps at an angle. Careful parking counts too. It's just under two metres wide across the body and wider again with the mirrors out, so tight tower bays ask for patience, and a kerbed wheel on a car worth this much gets expensive fast. That is part of why the deposit is substantial.

Heat is the honest caveat in summer. A low cabin under this much glass warms up quickly after a few hours in 45-degree sun, and with only two small rear seats there's little airflow behind the fronts. The climate system is strong and the cooled seats help, but give it a minute to catch up before you climb back in. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are yours to settle, as on any car here.

Who this Bentley is for

Rent the Continental GT 2025 if you want to drive something genuinely special yourself: a run out to the east coast, dinners around DIFC, a week where the car is part of the occasion and you travel light.
