The Cullinan sits higher, rides on real ground clearance, and opens up a boot big enough for a family's luggage rather than a couple's weekend bags. The eight-speed automatic shifts without a bump you can feel, and 0-100 km/h arrives in 5.2 seconds without the engine ever raising its voice. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h, which is academic on Sheikh Zayed Road but tells you the reserve is there for an overtake at 120 without the gearbox hunting for a lower gear.

What separates it from the Ghost is the air suspension working through a taller body and all-wheel drive that actually has somewhere to send that height. It floats over Dubai's patched tarmac and expansion joints the way the sedans do, but it also shrugs off a mall ramp or a steep villa driveway that would have a Ghost scraping its nose. That's the genuine argument for renting the SUV over the sedan: you get the same hushed V12 character with a car that doesn't flinch at real-world obstacles.

Space, boot and the daily use

Five seats, all of them wide and set high enough that rear passengers look over the traffic instead of into the door panel next to them. That's a real difference from the Ghost's lower bench, and it's the reason people with older parents or anyone who struggles to fold into a sedan tend to book this car instead. The boot holds 560 litres, enough for two or three large cases and the soft bags that come with them, which is more than any sedan on this fleet can offer without someone sitting on their luggage.

Ground clearance is 173 mm, and the air suspension lifts the body further for a steep ramp or a run of speed bumps, so ramps and kerbs at the Marina or a mall car park are not the worry they'd be in a Ghost. Ordinary parking, though, is still a real concern of its own. This car is 5.3 metres long and 2 metres wide across the body, wider again with the mirrors out, so tight multi-storey bays still ask for slow hands and a look at the cameras before you commit to a space. It's all-wheel drive and genuinely more capable than the sedans, but that's not the same as a Land Cruiser built for Hatta tracks. Keep it on tarmac.

A black cabin, fuel and running cost

In black, the Cullinan reads as understated for a Rolls-Royce, at least until it's next to you at a valet stand. Inside, the cabin is bigger than the Ghost's and sits under more glass, which means a car left parked through a 45-degree afternoon needs a few minutes to recover once you're back in it. The system gets there. Cold air reaches the rear seats properly rather than trickling from the dash vents, and once it settles the back row is as cool and quiet as anywhere in this fleet. Start it and give it a few minutes before loading passengers if it's been sitting.

The 100-litre tank runs on premium and the V12 uses it at around 16.5 L/100 km combined, so budget for a fuel stop or two across a week of city driving rather than treating it like a commuter car. Salik tolls and any RTA fines from the rental period are the renter's responsibility, seat belts are required in every seat, and a child under four needs a proper child seat even in a car this size. Who should rent it, and who should look elsewhere

Rent the Cullinan 2024 if the trip genuinely needs the extra room, a family with real luggage, a group where someone needs an easier seat to climb into, or you simply want the tallest, most commanding thing in the valet line without giving up the V12 hush. The 250-kilometre daily allowance covers a normal week of city driving and airport runs with room to spare, and extra distance costs AED 0.5 a kilometre if a day runs long.

If it's just you or a couple, and the appeal is the badge and the ride rather than the boot, the Ghost does the same job for less money and parks with far less thought. If you actually want to take a capable SUV off-road, a Range Rover or a proper 4x4 will do that honestly where the Cullinan won't.
