The Japanese-built Tiida has been replaced by a Mexican-built version for the 2011 model year, the benefits of which include a lower price and more available features. Available as a 5-door hatchback or a 4-door sedan, the new-for-2011 Tiida is available with a standard 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine, with a 6-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. There is good head room and even tall passengers will find rear seat legroom as good as that in many much larger cars. Two trim levels are available, namely the 1.8S and the 1.8SL. Standard features on the 1.8S include electric power steering, tilt steering column, 60/40 split folding rear seats, keyless entry, 15-inch steel wheels, a/c with micro filter, trip computer and a CD/MP3 stereo with AUX input. Moving up the range to a 1.8SL adds cruise control, front fog lamps, power door mirrors and windows, leather-wrapped steering wheel and a wood-grain interior finish and optional 16-inch alloy wheels, among other items. On the safety front, only a driver-side airbag is standard, while ABS, EBD, Brake-Assist, passenger-side front airbag and side-curtain airbags are all extra-cost options.
