The Mini Countryman 2024 is the biggest, most practical Mini you can rent in Dubai, and this is the Cooper S with all-wheel drive, which is the version most people should actually pick. We deliver it to your villa, hotel or office within one to two hours, and it rents from age 18 where much of the market holds out for 21. This is a premium compact crossover with a 218 hp turbo, the quality cabin Mini is known for, and the steering that makes ordinary errands more fun. The question here is whether the Cooper S is the sweet spot, or whether you're better off sizing up to a roomier mainstream SUV for the same week.
The 2.0-litre turbo makes 218 hp through all four wheels, with a 0 to 100 time around 7.1 seconds. That's quick enough to feel lively on a fast on-ramp without the firm-edged compromise of the full hot version. For nearly everyone renting a car for a Dubai week, this is the right amount of performance.
What you feel every day isn't the power, it's the steering. The Countryman turns in sharply and stays flat through a roundabout, and on a quick slip road it feels planted in a way mainstream crossovers this size don't manage. The trade-off is the ride, which is firmer than a soft family SUV and a little busy over patched tarmac and tram joints. The cabin makes up for it. The big round OLED screen, the toggle switches and the fabric dash give it a look nothing else at this size matches, and after a week you notice that quality more than the badge.

The boot holds around 460 litres, the most usable space any Mini gives you. In practice that's two large suitcases stood upright plus a couple of soft bags, or a comfortable airport run for two with room to spare. The rear seats slide, so you can trade legroom for boot when you need to.
Where it gets honest is four adults plus a full luggage load. The back seats are fine for two grown-ups and good for kids, but add a third in the middle with a packed boot for a DXB or DWC run, and it's tight. A family of five with a week of cases should look at a larger mainstream SUV. The Countryman is roomy for a Mini, not roomy for the class.
Summer is the real test here. With the car baked in a surface lot at 45C, the AC pulls a cabin this size down to comfortable in a few minutes, helped by the smaller volume of air to chill. Rear passengers get vents too, so kids in the back aren't left to roast.
On fuel, the official figure is impressively low, but a real Dubai week of stop-start traffic and short trips with the AC working hard runs higher. With the roughly 54-litre tank you'll still get a few hundred kilometres between fills, so most renters top up once a week, maybe twice if you're running the airport a lot. The mild-hybrid system helps a little in traffic, where this car spends most of its time.
At about 4.43 metres long it slots into Dubai parking without drama. Multi-storey bays, Marina ramps and tight U-turns are all easy, and the high seating helps you place it. Ground clearance around 200 mm clears steep mall ramps and the aggressive speed bumps near residential blocks without the scrape you get in a low sedan. The all-wheel drive is there for grip and confidence, not dune bashing, so treat this as a tarmac car that handles a graded track.
A note on costs that catch people out. Salik tolls run on your rental and get billed to you, and any RTA fine passes to the renter, so keep it sensible on Sheikh Zayed Road. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a child seat, which we can fit before delivery.
Rent this Countryman Cooper S if you want a Dubai week with some character, a cabin that feels a class above, and handling that makes errands more enjoyable, without paying the ride penalty of the full performance version. Two adults, or two adults and two kids, are the sweet spot. If your priority is pure space for four or five adults with full luggage, or you want the softest possible ride for long motorway days, size up to a larger mainstream SUV and spend the difference on legroom. For the right driver, the Cooper S is the most balanced Countryman we hand over, quick enough to enjoy and easy enough to live with.
