Most SUV rentals in Dubai still want you at 21 or 25 before they hand over the keys, so the Mini Countryman 2023 stands out for a different reason first: we rent it from age 20, a genuinely rare minimum in this class. That matters because the Countryman was, in its day, the biggest model Mini ever built, a proper five-seat crossover rather than the two-door hatch the brand is best known for. We bring it to your door within one to two hours, debit card or cash both fine at handover. This page settles one thing: whether the Mini badge and that low age limit outweigh the tight mileage allowance that comes with the car.
This is the outgoing shape, sold in the Gulf through 2023 before a much bigger, BMW X1 based Countryman replaced it. The listing carries no S or JCW badge, just "Countryman," and that matters because it tells you which engine sits under the bonnet. It's the smaller unit: a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder making 134 hp and 220 Nm, sent to the front wheels through an automatic gearbox. Don't expect the four-cylinder shove of a Cooper S. 0 to 100 km/h takes about 9.6 seconds, which is unhurried rather than quick.
What the three-cylinder buys you instead is character. It's eager off the line, the steering is quicker than a mainstream crossover's, and around town the small engine never feels strained. Merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road at the legal limit is no problem, but ask for a hard overtake past 100 and the modest output shows itself, more so with the AC working hard on a hot afternoon. Line it up against a Tucson or a Creta of similar size and the Mini gives you styling and a nicer cabin, not more space or pace for the money. That's the trade you're making.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol |
| Power | 134 hp / 220 Nm |
| Transmission | Automatic |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| 0-100 km/h | About 9.6 seconds |
| Seats | 5 |
| Boot | 450 litres, up to 1,390 with the rear seats folded |
| Fuel economy | About 17.5 km/L official combined |
| Fuel tank | 51 litres |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4,297 x 1,822 x 1,557 mm |
| Ground clearance | About 165 mm |
| Colour | Green |
At 450 litres the boot is a genuine step up from a hatchback. Two large cases fit with a soft bag on top, enough for a family's DXB pickup without anyone sitting on their luggage. Fold the rear bench and it opens to 1,390 litres, plenty for flatpack furniture or bulky sports gear.
The back seat is the honest limit. Two adults sit fine for a mall run or a short airport transfer, and three kids fit across for the school week, but this is a compact crossover at 4.3 metres, not the roomier shape the newer Countryman grew into. Put two full-size adults back there for a long day out and legroom runs short before the drive does.
Parking is where the size pays off. Under 4.3 metres long, the Countryman drops into a tight Marina tower bay or a multi-storey mall space without the three-point turns a bigger SUV needs. Ground clearance of about 165 mm handles speed bumps and mall ramps cleanly. This one is front-wheel drive on road tyres, so treat it as a smart city and highway car rather than anything with off-road ambition. Save that for an ALL4 model if the trip calls for it.
Read the allowance carefully before you book, because it works differently here than on most cars in the fleet. You get 4,500 km for the whole rental, not per day, then AED 3.65 for every kilometre past that. For a one-week booking, 4,500 km works out to roughly 640 km a day, more than enough for city errands, mall runs and an airport pickup with room to spare. Stretch the same booking to a month and that allowance flattens to about 150 km a day, which starts to feel tight if you're commuting across the city daily or planning a run out to Hatta and back.
The takeaway: a short Dubai stay barely touches the cap, a long one needs a bit of planning. Salik tolls on any route through a toll gate, and RTA fines picked up during the rental, both pass to you as the renter, same as on every car here.
Rent the Mini Countryman 2023 if you're a couple, a solo renter, or a small family who wants Mini character and real boot space for a week or two in Dubai, and especially if you're 20 or 21 and shut out of most SUVs that hold the line at 25. The cabin isn't large, so the front vents pull a parked, sun-baked interior down to comfortable within a few minutes once you're moving, and the green paint runs a little cooler in the sun than a black car would, though it still bakes after hours in an open lot. Give it a minute after you climb back in on a July afternoon.
Size up, or look elsewhere, in two cases. If your trip runs a month or longer, the 4,500 km total allowance works out tighter than a daily cap would, so budget for it or ask about a higher-mileage plan. And if you regularly need four adults with a full set of luggage, or you want real off-road ability for a desert day out, this FWD, 1.5-litre Countryman isn't built for either. For everything else, a badge with a bit of personality, an easy park, and a genuinely rare age-20 minimum, it earns its place.
