Output lands at 156 hp and 230 Nm, sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and 0 to 100 km/h takes about 7.7 seconds.

On the road the new generation feels tighter than the description suggests. Steering response is quicker off-centre, the ride settles faster over Dubai's expansion joints, and the gearbox swaps ratios cleanly rather than hunting the way some small automatics do in stop-start traffic. It holds 120 km/h on Sheikh Zayed Road with room to overtake, though it is still a three-cylinder city car at heart rather than something built for long, flat-out motorway stretches. Where it earns its keep is the short, twisty run, a Marina exit ramp or a fast lane change where the new chassis feels noticeably more planted than the old one did.

Second-row space and the daily boot load

This particular Cooper C comes as the five-door, which changes the car more than the extra length on paper suggests. You get proper rear doors instead of tipping a front seat forward, so a car seat goes in near the school run or a third passenger climbs in without a production number. Five seats are listed, though the middle rear position is tight for anything but a short hop, and two adults in the outer rear seats have decent knee room for the new, slightly longer body.

The boot holds around 210 litres with the seats up, one large case and a soft bag, and folding the second row frees up space for shopping or an extra bag rather than a full airport load for four. At just over four metres long the car still tucks into a bay that leaves an SUV hanging over the line, and the 143 mm of ground clearance takes mall ramps and most speed bumps in stride if you approach the steep ones at an angle. On the heat, the small cabin works for you: there is not much air for the front vents to shift, so a car baked at 45 degrees cools quickly once you are moving, though give it that first minute before you expect real cold air.
