Because all four wheels are driving, it puts the power down cleanly off the line and out of a corner, without the wheelspin a rear-drive car this potent would give you. Living with it day to day

The CLA 45 wears the same swooping four-door coupe body as the ordinary CLA, so the compromises are the same, just delivered on stiffer suspension. Two adults up front are fine. Keeping the cabin cool

A compact cabin works in your favour when you climb back in after a July afternoon in a car park with the dash reading 48 degrees. There is less air to chill, so the front vents pull the temperature down quickly once you are moving, and the white paint bakes a touch less than a dark car would. Rear passengers get their own vents, which matters on a full load. And if rear space and easy luggage matter more than the drive, a C-Class saloon or a small SUV will suit your week far better.
