Some cars sell on the spec sheet. The four-door coupe sells on the silhouette, and the Mercedes CLA 250 2024 is one of the few small Mercedes that earns a second look in a Marina car park. We rent it across Dubai from age 18, while most of the market won't hand you a Mercedes until 21, and we'll bring it to your door in one to two hours. That swooping roofline is the whole point of this car, so this page is honest about what it costs you in the back seat and the boot, and who's better off in something squarer.
The CLA 250 is a five-seat compact sedan that Mercedes styles like a coupe. Under the bonnet sits a 2.0-litre turbo four making 224 hp, paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that adds a small electric shove off the line and smooths the stop-start. Drive goes through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic to all four wheels, the 4MATIC setup, so traction is never the question on a wet underpass or a sandy slip road. Zero to 100 takes 6.3 seconds, and it'll run to an electronically limited 250 km/h you will never legally use here.
In plain terms, it's quick enough to feel premium without being a hot hatch. On Sheikh Zayed Road it cruises and overtakes without drama, and the dual-clutch box is happy at speed. The only place it gets fussy is crawling traffic, where dual-clutch gearboxes can feel slightly jerky from a dead stop. You notice it on the school run, not on the E11.

This is where the coupe styling sends the bill. The roof tapers hard toward the rear, so anyone over about 1.8 metres sitting in the back will brush the headlining, and the small rear window makes the bench feel darker and tighter than the numbers suggest. Two adults back there for a 20-minute airport run are fine. Two tall adults for an hour are not comfortable, and three across is a short-trip arrangement only.
The boot tells the same story. The opening is narrow and the lid is shaped for looks, not for loading, so you fight the aperture more than the volume. Two medium soft bags and a cabin case slide in cleanly. A pair of large hard suitcases is a wrestling match, and you'll likely lay one flat on the rear seat. If you're collecting a family of four with full luggage from DXB or DWC, this is the wrong car, and an A-Class sedan or a C-Class will save you the argument at the kerb.
So treat the CLA as a two-plus-two with occasional rear use. Couples, solo business renters, and friends travelling light get the best of it.
Parked under a June sun, the cabin gets to oven temperature like any other car here, but the CLA recovers quickly. The dual-zone climate pulls a 45-degree cabin down to comfortable in a few minutes, and the front vents are strong. The back seat has its own vents on the centre console, which matters more in this car than usual because the small rear glass traps heat. Crack the windows for the first thirty seconds, let the hot air dump, then close up and let the AC work. The black and darker interior trims soak up more heat, so park in shade when you can.
At 4.69 metres it's compact and easy to thread through Marina ramps and mall multi-storeys, and the all-round visibility forward is good. The low nose and 104 mm of ground clearance are the catch. Take speed bumps and steep ramp transitions at a crawl, or you'll scrape the front lip, and there are a few car-park entries in the older towers where you'll want to approach at an angle.
A couple of Dubai facts that are yours, not ours, once you drive off. Salik tolls are billed to the renter, and any RTA fines from cameras or parking come back to you, so keep it under the limits and mind the bus lanes. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a child seat, which we can fit on request.
The 51-litre tank and a real-world figure around 6.5 to 6.7 litres per 100 km give you a long leash. In honest Dubai use, mixing highway runs with city stop-start and the AC fighting the heat, expect closer to 8 litres per 100 km, which still means roughly 600 km between fills. For a week of meetings, dinners and the odd run out to Abu Dhabi, you're filling once, maybe twice. It takes 95-octane, and it isn't thirsty for a quick all-wheel-drive Mercedes.
Rent the CLA 250 if you want a small Mercedes that looks like money and drives like one, and you're mostly carrying yourself, a partner, and light bags around the city and out onto the highway. It's the style pick, and from 18 it's an easy yes when the rest of the market makes you wait until 21.
Skip it if your week is about people and luggage. Four adults with airport cases, tall passengers riding in the back regularly, or a boot you need to load without thinking belong in an A-Class sedan for the room or a C-Class for the comfort and the bigger boot. The CLA asks you to trade a little practicality for the shape. If that trade sounds right to you, it's the best-looking way to spend a week behind a Mercedes badge in Dubai.
