Mercedes C 300 2020 - start from 338 AED / day

The roof is the whole point. The Mercedes C 300 2020 we rent in Dubai is the cabriolet, a four-seat soft-top that drops its fabric roof in about 20 seconds, and that changes what kind of week you book it for. We hand it over at your door in one to two hours, with 250 km a day included and rent-from-18 where much of the market starts at 21. This isn't the C-Class sedan in a different colour. It's a two-door convertible, and the question this page settles is whether an open-top Mercedes is the right call for a Dubai trip, or whether the heat and the small boot push you back toward a hard-top.

Top down, and when it actually works

Be honest about the climate first. From May to September, roof-down driving in the middle of the day is uncomfortable at best, so the open-top appeal is really an early-morning, late-evening and winter thing. From November through March, a coastal cruise along Jumeirah with the roof stowed is genuinely one of the nicer ways to spend an hour in this city. The fabric roof folds at up to 50 km/h, so you can drop it while rolling rather than holding up the queue at a light.

With the roof up, it's a quiet, sealed cabin that behaves like any other C-Class. So you get both cars in one: a refined coupe for the highway and an open tourer for the good months.

The engine and how it drives

The C 300 cabriolet runs a 2.0-litre turbo four making 245 hp to the rear wheels through a nine-speed automatic. It reaches 100 km/h in about 6.4 seconds, which is brisk for a comfort-focused convertible. On Sheikh Zayed Road it has the mid-range to overtake cleanly, and rear-wheel drive gives it a planted, balanced feel at a 120 cruise.

A soft-top body flexes more than a coupe over rough surfaces, so you notice the odd shimmy on a broken patch of road. It's minor, and on Dubai's generally smooth tarmac it rarely shows up. This is a car tuned for relaxed pace and presence, not for chasing apexes.

Boot space and who fits

This is where a convertible asks you to compromise. The boot holds 285 litres with the roof up, and the folding roof eats into that space when it's stowed, so pack with the roof up if you're carrying luggage. Two people with a cabin case each and some soft bags will manage a week. A pair of large hard suitcases from the airport is a squeeze, and that's the honest limit.

On seats, it's a strict four, and the rear two are best treated as occasional or child seats rather than adult space for a long run. For a couple, it's ideal. For four adults plus airport luggage, this is the wrong car and a sedan or SUV is the answer.

Heat, the cabin and summer reality

Cabin cooling matters more here than in most cars, because a convertible left in the sun with the roof up still bakes, and the dark interior surfaces hold heat. The climate system pulls the cabin down quickly once you're moving and the front vents are strong, so a few minutes after pulling away it's comfortable. Drop the windows for the first half-minute to vent the trapped air. If your plan is mostly July midday driving, accept that you'll run it as a closed car with the AC working hard, and the open-top novelty waits for the cooler hours.

Parking and the city

At 4686 mm it's an easy size to place, and the two-door body is shorter to thread into a tight bay than you might expect. Marina ramps, mall basements and multi-storey bays are all manageable, helped by the parking sensors and camera. Clearance is normal saloon height, set for tarmac, so take the steep ramp lips and the harder community speed bumps slowly. There's nothing here for sand or rough tracks. One operational note: Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, the renter, and seat belts are required in every seat.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the C 300 2020 cabriolet if you want something with presence for a Dubai winter break, a couple's trip, or a few weeks where an open-top cruise along the coast is part of the appeal. It's a quick, refined, properly badged convertible, and rent-from-18 makes it reachable for a younger driver too.

Skip it in two cases. If you're booking in the depth of summer and the roof will stay up the whole time, you're paying a convertible premium and giving up boot and rear space for a feature you won't use, so a C-Class sedan makes more sense. And if you're carrying four people or full airport luggage, size up to an E-Class or an SUV. For the right week and the right weather, though, this is the car people remember.
