Maserati Ghibli 2020 - start from 481 AED / day

Renting a German sport sedan in Dubai usually means an M5, a Mercedes-AMG, or an Audi RS, three cars that all do the job superbly and increasingly sound the same doing it. The Maserati Ghibli 2020 is the one nobody else in the valet line is driving that week: an Italian sedan with a Ferrari-built V6 under the bonnet, in black, sold on how it sounds and how it feels rather than on the biggest number on a spec sheet. We deliver it to your door in Dubai in one to two hours. This page settles one real question: whether that character is worth trading for the back seat, the tech, and the outright pace of the German three.

The Ferrari-built V6, and how it drives

Under the bonnet sits a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, built by Ferrari at Maranello and shared across the Ghibli range, sending 350 hp and 500 Nm through an eight-speed ZF automatic to the rear wheels. Zero to 100 km/h takes 5.5 seconds and it carries on to 267 km/h, a number that means nothing on this side of a racetrack. None of that is why people book it. An M5 or an RS7 will beat it off the line without trying, both running V8s well past 600 hp. What the Ghibli sells instead is the noise on the way there. This V6 is coarser and more vocal climbing through the revs than the isolated, digitally tuned soundtracks the German turbo cars pipe through their speakers, and on a clear run down Sheikh Zayed Road an overtake still feels like an event.

Rear-wheel drive means no all-wheel-drive safety net under a hard launch, though on dry Dubai tarmac that rarely matters, and a firm press from a standstill just goes rather than hunting for grip. The ride sits on the firm side for a luxury saloon, so expansion joints and patched side streets come through more than in a comparable German sedan. It is still a low, planted car on smooth asphalt, and it never feels unsettled the way a taller SUV does over the same surface.

Boot, back seat and everyday use

Up front, the Ghibli is a good place to spend a week. The compromise sits behind the front seats: the sloping roofline and the platform's age leave rear headroom and legroom behind an M5 or an AMG sedan, and a tall adult behind a tall driver notices it once the drive runs past twenty minutes. Two adults in the back, or a couple of kids on the school run, are genuinely comfortable. Four full-size adults for a whole day of meetings and mall stops is where it starts to feel tight.

The boot is the stronger case. At 500 litres it takes two large cases and a soft bag without a fight, covering a DXB or DWC airport run without repacking. If the week is mostly two people making an entrance with proper luggage, the Ghibli does the job well. If it is four colleagues and their bags every day, a bigger German sedan earns its keep.

At just under five metres long, it is a large car for a Marina tower's parking bay or a tight mall multi-storey, and the U-turns want more patience than a compact sedan gives. Ground clearance is standard low-sedan height rather than generous, so take steep mall ramps and sharp speed bumps at an angle and slowly, as you would with any low sports sedan.

Fuel bills, Salik and a black cabin in summer

The 80-litre tank and a combined economy figure around 8.9 litres per 100 km give a relaxed week of mixed driving real range without constant stops. Use that V6 the way it wants to be used, in and out of city traffic with a heavy right foot, and the number on paper stops meaning much, so budget for more fill-ups than a quiet week suggests. It also drinks premium fuel, worth knowing before comparing running cost against a four-cylinder German rival on paper.

Black paint is the one thing to plan around in a Dubai summer. Parked outside for a few hours in July or August, a dark car gets noticeably hotter on the dash and seats than a lighter colour would, so the cabin takes longer to pull down to comfortable once you climb back in. The air conditioning is strong once it gets going and copes with a full load of passengers front and rear, and a sunshade for longer stops is a small habit worth keeping with this colour. Inside, being a 2020 car, the switchgear and infotainment already read a generation behind a current M5 or AMG, worth knowing if the newest screen matters to you as much as the engine note.

Who this Ghibli suits, and who should look elsewhere

Rent the Ghibli if what you want out of the week is a luxury sedan with real character, an engine you can hear, and a badge nobody else at the hotel valet is handing over keys for. Being a 2020 example, it usually rents for less than the newer Ghiblis on the same fleet, without giving up any of that presence at the door.

Look elsewhere in two cases. If outright pace and the newest cabin tech are the point, an M5, a Mercedes-AMG sedan or an Audi RS is faster, roomier in the back, and feels newer inside for similar money. If running cost decides the booking, the tank wants premium fuel and a heavy right foot burns through it fast in city traffic, so a four-cylinder German rival costs less to keep fed.

A few practicalities before booking. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental pass to the renter, and seat belts are mandatory in every seat. This is a luxury car, so expect a refundable deposit rather than a no-deposit deal. The daily allowance is 250 km, extra kilometres run at AED 0.5 each, and the minimum age to take the keys is 25. Book the Ghibli for the sound and the rarity, not for the biggest back seat or the cheapest tank of fuel.
