Want a compact luxury saloon that drives like its maker meant it, not just another badge in the valet line? We hand over the Jaguar XE 2024 across Dubai with 250 km a day included, and it earns its keep on the road rather than the spec sheet. This is the keen driver's pick in the segment, a rear-driven sedan with sharper steering and more character than the German default. It's the car for a couple or a solo driver who wants flair and a chassis that talks back. What it isn't is the roomiest option in its class, and this page is honest about where that bites.
Think of the XE as the saloon you rent because you like driving, not because you need to move four adults and their cases to the airport. The cabin is built around the front two seats. Up front it's low, snug in the good way, with a driving position that sits you into the car. Two people on a week of dinners, meetings and weekend drives will love it. Add rear passengers and the compromises show, which we'll get to.
If you want the short version: rent the XE for the drive and the look. If space is the priority, size up.
This is where the XE makes its case. The 2.0-litre turbo four sends drive to the rear wheels, and the steering has a precision most rivals in this bracket have quietly given up on. On the E11 it cruises flat and overtakes without drama, the 8-speed automatic dropping a couple of gears the moment you ask. At a real 247 hp it's quick enough, 0 to 100 in about 6.5 seconds, and it stays composed well past the speeds where a small hatch starts to feel nervous.
Around town the trade-off is ride. The XE rides firmer than a comfort-first executive sedan, so Dubai's sharper speed bumps register. It's never punishing, just present. Ground clearance is 123 mm, which is modest, so take steep mall and Marina ramps at an angle and slowly. You'll learn the approach after one or two.

Here's the part the brochure won't lead with. The XE's rear bench is tight for the class. Two adults fit for a short hop, but on anything longer a six-footer behind a six-footer will be counting the minutes. Headroom is fine, knee room is the pinch. For children or occasional adult passengers it's workable. For four adults on a regular basis, a roomier executive saloon or a crossover is the smarter rent.
The boot tells a similar story. It swallows a large case plus a soft bag comfortably, which covers a couple flying into DXB or DWC for the week. Two big hard cases and a third bag, and you're playing Tetris. Plan for two travellers, not four.
A car at this level is expected to cool quickly, and the XE does. Park it in July with the cabin baking past the high 40s and the climate system pulls the front down to comfortable within a few minutes, faster if you crack the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst of the heat. The smaller cabin actually helps here, less air to chill. Rear passengers get vents too, so a back-seat passenger isn't an afterthought on a hot run.
The 62-litre tank and the real-world economy mean you're not living at the pump. Expect somewhere around 9 to 11 km per litre in mixed Dubai driving, more on a steady E11 cruise, less if you sit in stop-and-go on Sheikh Zayed Road. That works out to a comfortable range, so a typical week of city errands and a couple of longer drives needs one fill, maybe a top-up. Jaguar's official combined figure is leaner than that, but heat, traffic and AC load are real, so we quote what you'll actually see.
A few Dubai practicalities. Salik tolls and any RTA fines run during your rental are the renter's responsibility, so the gates and the speed limits are on you. Seat belts are required in every seat, front and back. None of this is unusual, it just helps to know before you collect the keys.
Inside, the XE looks and feels properly premium. Good materials, a low cockpit, the right kind of restraint. The honest caveat is the tech. The infotainment and screen layout feel a step behind the newest rivals, which have moved to bigger, slicker displays. Everything works, the system is just not the showpiece some competitors now make it. If a giant crisp touchscreen is your deal-breaker, you'll notice. If you care more about how the car drives, you won't mind.
Rent the Jaguar XE 2024 if you're one or two people who want a stylish, rear-driven saloon that's genuinely good to drive, and you'd rather stand out than blend into a row of identical German sedans. For weekend drives, airport runs for a couple, and looking the part at a hotel forecourt, it's a strong, characterful choice. Skip it if you regularly carry four adults or a full set of hard luggage, or if you want the latest cabin screen. For those, a larger executive sedan or a midsize SUV is the better call. For the keen driver who travels light, the XE is the one we'd point you to.
