Pick the soft top elsewhere on our fleet and you take on a folding roof that eats into the boot and a fabric top best left up once the sun is properly out. Pick this Ford Mustang 2024 instead, the fixed-roof coupe in black, and both of those trade-offs disappear along with the roof mechanism itself. It rents in Dubai with doorstep delivery in one to two hours, and you only need to be 21 to take the keys, younger than most sports-car desks in this city ask. Ours is the 2.3-litre EcoBoost automatic, the sensible route into the new S650 generation, and this page works out what the fixed roof actually buys you over the drop-top parked a few rows over on the same fleet.
Ford didn't refresh the old Mustang for 2024, it started over. The S650 sits on a new platform, and the cabin shows it more than the sheet metal does: the old analogue dials are gone, replaced by a 12.4-inch digital cluster that flows into a wide touchscreen, so the dash reads as one connected display rather than gauges bolted next to a screen. The nose is sharper and the stance is wider than the outgoing car's, which is why this shape still turns heads from people who've seen plenty of Mustangs before.
Our car runs the 2.3-litre EcoBoost turbo four, doing about 315 hp and 0 to 100 km/h in around 5.5 seconds through a 10-speed automatic, the only gearbox this engine comes with. That's brisk enough to hold your own on Sheikh Zayed Road with room for a confident overtake, without the running costs of the V8. Ford also sells a 5.0-litre V8 GT alongside it, closer to 486 hp and noticeably louder at idle, if the engine note matters more to you than the fuel bill. Rear-wheel drive is the only layout Mustang has ever offered, whatever else you might read, so treat a wet morning or a painted line gently until you know how the back end behaves.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 2.3-litre turbocharged four (EcoBoost) |
| Power | About 315 hp |
| 0-100 km/h | About 5.5 seconds |
| Transmission | 10-speed automatic |
| Drive | Rear-wheel drive |
| Body | Coupe (fixed roof) |
| Seats | 4 (2+2) |
| Boot | About 382 litres |
| Fuel tank | 59 litres |
| Fuel economy | About 10 L/100km combined |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4,810 x 1,915 x 1,400 mm |
| Ground clearance | About 130 mm |
| Colour | Black |
Count the back seats as somewhere to put a jacket, not a place for adults. This is a 2+2, and the rear bench is fine for a bag or a child on a short ride, tight for anyone who wants their knees back after twenty minutes. Up front, the seating position is low and shaped properly, with real width for two.
This is where the fixed roof earns its keep. At about 382 litres, the boot beats the convertible version on our fleet by a wide margin, because there's no folding top or its mechanism eating into the space behind the seats. That's enough for two proper cases, or one large case and a couple of soft bags, which makes this a realistic airport car rather than one you have to plan luggage around. Ground clearance is the number to respect in return, at around 130 mm. Steep hotel ramps, tight mall entrances and the sharper speed bumps around the Marina all want a slow, angled approach rather than driving straight over them.
The EcoBoost four is why this Mustang is cheap to actually drive, not just cheap to book. Figure on about 10 litres per 100 km in mixed city traffic, and with a 59-litre tank that clears well over 500 km between fills on a normal week, running on premium fuel. Set that against what the V8 drinks on the same week and the saving is real, on top of the lower daily rate.
Black paint is the honest complication here, not the roof. Parked in the open at midday, a dark coupe with a solid roofline soaks up more heat than a lighter car, so expect the wheel and seats to be properly warm when you climb back in. The fixed roof still works in your favour against a convertible, though. There's no fabric top losing its fight with UV and no roof-down decision to make around the calendar, and a closed cabin holds a cooler temperature for longer once you've parked than an open one ever does. Moving, the cabin is small enough that the front vents pull the heat down within a couple of minutes. The rear seats get noticeably less airflow, one more reason to leave them for bags rather than people. Salik tolls and any RTA fines pass to the renter, and seat belts are required in every seat.
Book this Mustang if you want the current Mustang shape, a fair running cost, and a boot that can actually carry a week's luggage without a fight. It's the sensible way into the S650, not a compromise version of it, and being 21 rather than 25 gets you there sooner than most sports-car rentals in this city allow.
Ask for the V8 GT if the engine note is the real reason you want a Mustang. It pulls harder and sounds the part in a way the turbo four was never going to match. Pass on the whole model, coupe or convertible, if your trip means four adults or a genuine load of bags for a group, since the back seats and the firm ride wear thin by the second day. A sedan or an SUV will treat that group better.
A few terms before you book. As a sports car it goes out against a refundable deposit confirmed at booking, not a no-deposit deal. You need to be at least 21 to take the keys, the daily mileage allowance is 250 km, and every kilometre past that costs AED 0.5. Get the engine choice right for what you actually want from the week, and this black coupe is one of the more sensible sports-car rentals you can put your name on in Dubai right now.
