BMW 520 2023 rentals in Dubai sit right on a generation line, and it's worth settling before you book: this dark grey sedan is the outgoing G30-generation 5 Series, not the longer G60 that took over the badge later the same year. The two share a name but run different engines and back seats. We hand this one over at your hotel, office or apartment door, usually within one to two hours of booking. It's the last of the 184 hp four-cylinder 520i line before BMW moved the badge onto the newer body, built for someone who'd rather drive a week of meetings than be driven through it. The question here is whether that older, sharper-driving car still suits your trip.
Open the bonnet and there's a 2.0-litre turbocharged four, not a six, sending 184 hp and 290 Nm through an eight-speed automatic to the rear wheels. There's no mild hybrid assist here, that's a G60 feature, so the power comes on in a more conventional way: a beat of turbo lag off the line, then a steady pull once boost builds. 0-100 km/h takes 7.8 seconds and top speed is 235 km/h, both modest next to a 530i, but the entry engine was never the point of renting a 520i. What you get instead is a chassis that feels genuinely alert. Merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road, holding 120 km/h on a run to the airport, working through the curves near Downtown, rear-wheel drive keeps this car more settled and more willing to change direction than most front-driven rivals in its class, the Camry included. Overtaking above 120 with a full cabin takes one confident push rather than a string of them. Against the newer G60 that replaced it, this G30 gives up 24 hp and the mild hybrid's instant low-end shove, but it's the more direct car through a bend, and some drivers will genuinely prefer that over the newer car's extra polish.
The 530-litre boot takes two large hard cases and a laptop bag loaded flat, with a bit of room left for a jacket across the back seat. That's a business trip's worth of luggage, not a family's holiday load. In the back, a 2,975 mm wheelbase gives comfortable rather than generous legroom, so one passenger travels easily on an airport run and two side by side works for a short hop across town, but a third across the middle is a ten-minute seat, not a daily one. Anyone who wants the back seat to be the actual reason for renting the car, rather than somewhere to sit occasionally, should look at the 735i instead, which is built around rear-seat space the way this sedan isn't. Around town, 144 mm of ground clearance handles speed bumps and mall ramps at a normal pace, though a tight multi-storey bay in Marina or DIFC still wants a slow, deliberate line in given the car's near-five-metre length.

The daily allowance on this car is 250 km, and once you're past it, extra kilometres cost AED 0.5 each, a fair rate if you do go over. For city driving, hotel to office, the odd airport run, 250 km a day covers most routines with room spare, though a trip that adds regular runs out to Abu Dhabi or Sharjah on top of local driving will want the sums checked before you commit to a longer booking. BMW quotes combined fuel economy of 5.4 to 5.9 L/100km, and Dubai traffic with the AC working through a summer afternoon usually pushes that closer to 8 L/100km in practice. Even at that higher figure, the 68-litre tank gets you close to 800 km before a fill-up. The climate control and rear vents pull a parked cabin down fast once you climb back in from a 48-degree car park, and the back seat gets its own airflow rather than whatever drifts back from the front. As with any rental here, Salik tolls and RTA fines picked up during the booking are billed to you, and seat belts are required in every seat, with a child seat mandatory for anyone under four.
Rent this 520i if you're in Dubai for work, want to drive yourself rather than sit in the back, and like the idea of the sharper, lighter G30 over the newer car that replaced it. Two people travelling with carry-on bags and laptop cases will find a week in it easy, and the mileage allowance holds up for normal city driving without much thought. Look elsewhere in three cases. If you want the newest tech, the extra rear legroom or the mild hybrid's smoother low-speed pull, the G60-generation 520 is the car for that, not this one. If the back seat is really what you're paying for, the 735i is the better call. And if you're travelling as four adults with full luggage, a mid-size SUV suits the trip better than any sedan in this class. As a premium sedan, this car typically carries a refundable deposit rather than a no-deposit option, so budget for that alongside the rate. Your daily allowance is 250 km, extra kilometres cost AED 0.5 each, and you'll need to be at least 25 to take the keys.
