Renting a BMW 520 2021 in Dubai usually comes down to one job: getting through a run of client meetings, hotel-to-office trips and highway commutes without arriving frazzled at the other end. We drop it at your hotel, villa or office door, generally within one to two hours of booking, in blue. This is the G30-generation 5 Series in its facelifted form, BMW's mid-size executive sedan, and it isn't the car that turns heads the way an M-badge model does. It's the car a consultant, an account manager or a visiting exec rents because the seat, the ride and the cabin quiet all hold up over several straight days of work. The engine, and how it drives

It's worth saying plainly: this is the entry engine in the 5 Series range, and 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds will not feel quick next to a 530i or the 735i. What it does well is stay smooth and unbothered doing the ordinary parts of a business trip. Merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road, holding 120 km/h on a cruise to the airport, pulling away from a signal on Al Wasl Road, none of it feels like the car is working hard, and the eight-speed gearbox shuffles through ratios without you noticing. Rear-wheel drive keeps the car planted and neutral through the long curves near Downtown, which is more than a front-driven rival like a Camry offers at this price. Where the 520 runs out of puff is overtaking above 120 on the E11 with a full load on board. There's enough in reserve for one clean move, not a string of them. Against its closest rival, the Mercedes E-Class, the BMW feels the tighter, more alert car to drive, while the Mercedes leans softer. If driving involvement matters to you at all, that tips it toward the BMW.

Boot, back seat and the daily use

The 530-litre boot is a genuine business-trip size: two large hard cases and a laptop bag load in flat, with room left for a jacket on a hanger across the back. It won't swallow a family's holiday luggage, but that was never the brief. In the back, legroom is comfortable rather than limousine-grade. For someone driving themselves and occasionally carrying one passenger, the 520's back seat is more than adequate. At just under five metres long with 144 mm of ground clearance, it takes mall ramps and speed bumps at a normal pace without scraping, though a tight multi-storey bay in Marina or DIFC still wants a slow, careful line in. On the heat, the automatic climate control and rear air vents pull the cabin down fast once you climb back in from a 48-degree car park, and the back seat gets its own airflow rather than waiting on whatever drifts back from the front. It's not a limousine climate system, but for a car this size it copes with a Dubai afternoon without drama.

The mileage math, and why it matters here

Who should rent it, and who should look elsewhere

Rent the 520 if you're in Dubai for work, want to drive yourself rather than sit in the back, and value a quiet, composed cruiser over outright pace. It looks the part for a client meeting, it's genuinely pleasant on the highway, and against the E-Class it's the sharper car for the money without giving up much comfort. Two people travelling with carry-on bags and laptop cases will find a week in it easy. Look elsewhere in two situations. If the back seat is really what you're paying for, chauffeured comfort with more room to stretch out, the 735i is built around that in a way the 520 isn't. And if your trip means four adults with full luggage, or you'd rather not think about a per-kilometre charge at all, a larger SUV or a car with an unlimited-mileage policy will suit you better. As a premium sedan, the 520 typically carries a refundable deposit rather than being offered with no deposit at all, so plan for that on top of the daily rate.
