Want the BMW badge without the saloon price, and you can settle up when the car arrives? We hand over the BMW 228 2022 across Dubai with payment taken on delivery, so cards, cash, or your phone wallet all work at the door. This is the 2 Series in its four-door coupe shape, a compact car with a low, sporty roofline and a 2.0L turbo four pushing 228 hp. It suits couples and solo drivers who want something that feels premium and parks easily more than it suits four adults with luggage. That trade is the whole point of this page, and we'll be straight about where the 228 stops making sense.
The 228 is a coupe-styled four-door, not a tall saloon. BMW calls the body a Gran Coupe, and the look is the reason most people pick it: a long bonnet, a roofline that drops toward the back, and frameless-feeling doors that read sportier than a 3 Series. You sit low. The cabin up front is snug and driver-focused, with proper bolstering in the seats and a dashboard angled toward whoever's driving.
That styling costs you headroom in the back. The same dropping roof that makes the car look quick on Sheikh Zayed Road eats into rear space, so two adults behind two adults works for a short hop but gets tight on a longer run. If your week is mostly two people, that's irrelevant. If it's four, read the recommendation at the bottom first.

This is where the 228 earns its keep. The turbo four is genuinely quick, hitting 100 in roughly six and a half seconds, and the 8-speed automatic shifts smoothly enough that you forget it's there in traffic. Getting onto the E11 or merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road takes one confident press, and there's plenty left for an overtake at speed. Unlike the small city cars we rent, this one never feels short of breath above 100.
Around town it stays composed. The steering is quick, the body stays flat through Marina roundabouts, and the brakes are strong. It rides a touch firmer than a comfort-tuned saloon, so sharper speed bumps come through, but it's never harsh.
A small, low cabin has one real advantage in a Dubai July: it cools fast. Park the 228 in 45-degree heat and the AC pulls the front cabin down to comfortable in a few minutes, helped by strong front vents and not much air volume to chill. The rear gets vents too, so back-seat passengers aren't left baking. As with any dark car here, the metallic black and grey colours soak up heat on the seats and wheel, so the first minute is warm whatever you drive.
At 4526 mm long and 1800 mm wide, the 228 slots into tight multi-storey bays without drama and is easy to thread through Marina and mall ramps. It's a car you can place precisely. The 152 mm of ground clearance is normal saloon height, fine for Dubai's speed bumps and kerbs if you take the steeper ones at an angle, but this is not a car for sandy tracks or rough ground. Keep it on tarmac.
The boot is the honest weak spot. There's enough room for two large cases or one large case plus a couple of soft bags, which covers a couples' airport run to DXB or DWC. Load four people's hard luggage and it won't go. The rear seats fold if you're carrying gear instead of passengers, which helps, but if luggage is the priority you want a bigger car. For two travellers and a week in Dubai, the boot is fine.
Real-world city economy sits around 9.8 to 10.2 km/L, which from a 50-litre tank gives you roughly 500 km of mixed Dubai driving before you think about a fill. That's most of a normal rental week between stops. Run it hard on the highway and it does better on range, up toward 720 km, since steady cruising suits the turbo four. Petrol is cheap here, so the running cost on this engine is reasonable for the performance you get.
Two things to know. Salik tolls are billed to the renter, so every gantry you pass on Sheikh Zayed Road or the bridges goes on your account, not ours. Any RTA fine during your rental passes to you as well, so the speed limits matter, especially in a car this eager. Seat belts are required in every seat. None of this is unusual, it's just the part renters forget until the invoice arrives.
Rent it if you're one or two people who want a premium, quick, good-looking car that's easy to park and cheap enough to run for a week of city driving and highway cruising. It feels like a proper BMW, it cools fast in the heat, and it's the right size for Dubai's car parks.
Don't rent it if you're regularly carrying four adults, if rear-seat comfort matters, or if you're hauling a family's worth of luggage. The low roof and modest boot are real limits, not nitpicks. For that, step up to a 3 Series for the space, or take an SUV if you want clearance and a bigger boot. For the couple or the solo driver who wants the badge and the drive, the 228 is the smarter pick.
