At a hotel valet stand past midnight, black paint does something no other colour manages: it disappears into the dark until a doorman's torch catches the winged B on the grille. That's the pitch behind a Bentley Bentayga 2023 rental in Dubai, over the two SUVs most renters cross shop it against, a Range Rover or a Rolls-Royce Cullinan. This is the one hand-built in Crewe, and the one that expects you to drive it, not sit in the back of it. We deliver it to your hotel, villa or terminal within one to two hours of booking. This page settles whether that extra craftsmanship is worth the trade against the calmer or grander alternative.
Every 2023 Bentayga here runs the same drivetrain regardless of paint: a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 rated at 542 hp and 770 Nm, sent through an eight-speed automatic to all four wheels. Bentley's own figures put it at 4.5 seconds to 100 km/h and a 290 km/h top speed, quick for something this heavy, though the more telling number is how little effort the car asks of you to get there. Air suspension keeps the body flat through a fast sweeper, and the steering loads up properly in your hands rather than going light and vague the way most three-tonne SUVs do past 100 km/h. There's enough shove in the V8's mid-range that overtaking on Sheikh Zayed Road barely needs planning, just a squeeze of the right pedal.
That's the real split between the Bentayga and the two SUVs it actually competes with on a shortlist. A Cullinan is softer and grander, built for whoever is sitting behind the driver, and it has little interest in a corner. A Range Rover is the calmer, cheaper-to-run pick if quiet luxury is the whole brief and you don't care who's driving. The Bentayga sits between them as the one you rent because you want to be behind the wheel yourself, and Crewe still builds every one of these by hand to back that argument up.
The cabin seats five, and the finish is the other reason this beats a Range Rover on the same shortlist. Hand-stitched leather covers everything you touch, the doors carry Bentley's diamond quilting, and the dials and switchgear have a machined, weighted feel that a mass-production interior can't fake at any price. It's the kind of cabin where sitting in traffic on the way to a meeting doesn't feel like time wasted.
The boot holds 484 litres with the rear seats up, which is honest space rather than generous. Two large cases and a couple of soft bags clear it without a fight, workable for a couple on a DXB or DWC run. Add a fourth adult with a suitcase of their own and the boot runs out before the back seat does, so a family of four heading to the airport should think about what's actually going in the hold before booking this over a bigger SUV.

Budget for what the V8 drinks. Combined economy sits around 13 L/100km, and real Dubai traffic runs higher than that on a week of stop-start driving. The 85-litre tank takes premium fuel and is good for something like 650 km on a steady run, comfortable range for a day out to Abu Dhabi or Al Ain without a second stop. Salik tolls and any RTA fines picked up during the rental are the renter's to settle, and every seat needs a belt buckled, with a child seat required for anyone under four.
Black is also where the summer heat shows up most honestly. A dark, tightly sealed cabin this size holds warmth longer than a lighter one after an afternoon in an open car park, and the first minute back inside past 45 degrees is genuinely uncomfortable before the system catches up. Once it does, the air is strong and rear passengers get their own vents instead of whatever drifts back from the front, with cooled seats to take the worst of the edge off while you wait. It's a real cost of the colour, not a myth, and worth knowing before you climb back in at 2pm rather than being caught out by it.
Size asks for the same care. At just over 5.1 metres long and close to two metres wide across the body, a Marina basement or a narrow mall level means folding the mirrors and taking the corner slowly. Ground clearance sits around 180 mm and the air suspension lifts further on demand, so a steep ramp or a tall speed bump isn't the risk. A kerbed wheel or a scrape against a support pillar is, and putting that right on hand-built bodywork is never cheap.
Rent the Bentayga 2023 if the driving matters as much as the arrival. You want a super-luxury SUV that rewards a good road and a proper interior to sit in while you're doing the driving yourself, not a car that's only interesting from the back seat.
Look elsewhere in two cases. If the back seat is the whole reason for the booking, a wedding, a client pickup, an evening you'd rather be delivered to than drive to, a Cullinan does that with more room and far less interest in the road. If you want most of the comfort and the badge recognition without hand-built running costs or the deposit that comes with them, a Range Rover covers a similar week for a lot less.
Go in clear on the terms. This is a super-luxury booking and it takes a substantial deposit, so there's no no-deposit option here. The rental includes 250 km a day, extra kilometres cost AED 0.5 each, and you need to be at least 25 to take the keys. Doorstep delivery runs one to two hours from booking, black paint included.
