What's under the bonnet, and how it carries its weight

Every 2022 Bentayga in this market runs the same hardware: a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, 542 hp and 770 Nm, sent through an eight-speed automatic to all four wheels. Bentley claims 4.5 seconds to 100 km/h and a 290 km/h top speed, quick for something this heavy but not the real headline. The headline is how it carries that weight. Air suspension keeps the body flat through a fast sweep on the way to Abu Dhabi, and the steering carries real weight in your hands instead of the numb, over-assisted feel most big SUVs settle for.

Set it against the other two badges chasing the same buyer. The Urus is faster in a straight line and louder about it, a car that wants to be driven near its limit to make sense. The Cullinan runs the opposite instinct: softer suspension, a quieter cabin, built around the person being driven rather than the person driving. The Bentayga is the compromise that actually works. It has enough of the Urus's eagerness to reward a driver on Sheikh Zayed Road, and enough of the Cullinan's composure that a full day behind the wheel doesn't wear you down.

The cabin, the boot and what actually fits

Five seats come standard on this generation, and the car here is finished in grey with the diamond-quilted leather Bentley is known for. Sit in it and the difference from a Range Rover, or even the Cullinan's more restrained cabin, is obvious within seconds: knurled metal switches, hand-stitched panels, and a level of finish that makes most luxury interiors look assembled rather than built. That craftsmanship is a real part of what you're paying for on a week where the car itself is part of the plan, not just transport.

The boot holds 484 litres with the rear seats up, which is honest luggage space rather than generous. Two large cases and a couple of soft bags fit without a fight, enough for a couple travelling for a week or a DXB pickup for two. Try to add a fourth adult's suitcase on top of that and you'll be negotiating with the parcel shelf. If the trip means four adults with a full case each, look at something with a bigger hold. The Bentayga's cabin isn't the limit here. The boot is.

What it costs to run, and the Dubai heat

Budget for the V8's appetite. Combined economy sits around 13 L/100km, and real city driving in Dubai traffic runs higher than that figure suggests. The 85-litre tank takes premium fuel and is good for roughly 650 km before you're thinking about the next stop, comfortable range for a day out to Al Ain or Abu Dhabi and back without refuelling twice.

Heat is the other honest conversation. A cabin this size and this tightly sealed takes a minute or so to recover from a car park at 45 degrees plus in August. Once the system catches up it's strong, and rear passengers get their own vents rather than whatever drifts back from the front seats, with cooled seats to take the edge off while the compressor works. Give it that first minute before you judge it.

Size is the other trade-off worth knowing before you book. At just over 5.1 metres long and close to two metres wide across the body, the Bentayga wants room. A tight Marina bay or a narrow mall level means folding the mirrors and taking the corner slowly. Ground clearance sits around 180 mm and the air suspension lifts further on demand, so a steep ramp or a tall speed bump isn't the risk. A kerbed wheel or a scrape against a support pillar is, and putting that right on hand-built bodywork isn't cheap. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility, as with any car here, and every seat needs a belt, with a child seat required for under-fours.

Who this Bentayga suits, and who should look elsewhere

Rent the Bentayga 2022 if you want to drive a super-luxury SUV yourself, not just sit in one, and if a genuinely special cabin matters for the week. Against the Urus, it's the more comfortable, more composed choice for someone who isn't chasing lap times. Against the Cullinan, it's the one built for a driver rather than a passenger.

Look elsewhere in two cases. If the back seat is the whole point of the booking, a wedding, a client arrival, an evening you want to be delivered rather than drive, the Cullinan does that job with more presence. If speed and drama matter more than comfort or a full week's usability, the Urus is the sharper tool for that brief.

Go in aware of the terms. This is a super-luxury booking and it takes a substantial deposit, so there's no no-deposit option here. You need to be at least 25 to take the keys for this one, the rental includes 250 km a day, and anything past that costs AED 0.5 per kilometre.
