Step into a 2021 Audi A6 and the first thing you notice is how little noise follows you in. We rent the Audi A6 2021 across Dubai with no deposit on the standard booking, which is rare for a full-size German sedan at this rate. Most of the market makes you leave a hefty hold on the card for a car in this class. The A6's real pull, though, is the cabin: the layered MMI screens, the soft-close switchgear, the way the doors thud shut. This page is about that side of the car, the quiet-luxury feel and the tech, and whether it earns its keep over a cheaper sedan for your week here.
The A6's interior is where the money went. Two stacked touchscreens run the centre stack, a 10.1-inch display up top for navigation and media and a second below it for climate and shortcuts. Both give a small haptic click when you press them, so you're not poking at dead glass. The driver gets Audi's full digital instrument binnacle, which you can flip to a near-full-screen map. It reads clearly even with the sun low over Sheikh Zayed Road.
Material quality is the part photos undersell. The dash top is soft, the trim inserts feel cool and solid rather than printed, and the ambient lighting at night gives the cabin a calm, expensive glow without turning it into a disco. For four adults this is a genuinely comfortable place to spend an hour in traffic. The two outer rear seats are excellent; the middle one is firmer and the floor hump means the centre passenger draws the short straw on a long run.
If you've been renting economy hatchbacks and you sit in this, the gap is obvious. That's the whole argument for the A6 over something cheaper: not speed, but the 90 minutes a day you spend inside it feeling like the rate bought you something.
| Spec | Figure |
|---|---|
| Class / body | Business sedan, 5 seats |
| Engine | 2.0-litre turbo petrol (45 TFSI) |
| Power | 245 hp |
| Drivetrain | Front-wheel drive |
| Transmission | 7-speed automatic |
| 0-100 km/h | 6.8 seconds |
| Top speed | 250 km/h |
| Fuel economy (combined) | 6.0-6.5 L/100km official |
| Fuel tank | 63 litres |
| Boot | 530 litres |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4939 x 1886 x 1457 mm |
| Colour | Blue |
The boot holds 530 litres, which is a large, square load space for this class. In real terms that's two big hard-shell suitcases lying flat with room left for a couple of cabin bags and a laptop backpack on top. A family of four heading to DXB with a week's luggage fits without anyone holding a bag on their lap. The opening is wide and the lip is low, so loading is easy in a parking structure where you can't swing the cases around.
For a DWC run or a longer trip with three large cases plus golf clubs, you'll be playing some tetris, but it goes in. This is the kind of boot that quietly settles the "do we need an SUV" question for most airport pickups.
The 2021 A6 has a three-zone climate system with vents in the rear, which matters more than people expect when the car has been parked in the open at 45 degrees. The cabin is large, so the first two or three minutes feel slow while the system clears the heat soak out of the leather and the dash. After that it holds a cold, even temperature front and back, and rear passengers get their own controls rather than relying on cold air drifting back from the front.
My advice is the same one I give every renter: drop the windows for the first half-minute of driving to dump the worst of the trapped heat, then close up and let the climate do its job. In this car it pulls down well once it gets going, and the rear vents mean kids in the back aren't roasting on the school run.
The 245 hp turbo four is more than enough for how you actually drive here. It's quick off the line for overtakes and merges onto the E11, settles into a hushed cruise at the limit, and the automatic shuffles gears smoothly enough that you forget it's working. This is front-wheel drive, not quattro, so it's a comfortable highway and city sedan rather than a back-road weapon, which suits Dubai roads fine.
On fuel, ignore the official 6.0-6.5 L/100km. In real Dubai use, short hops, heavy AC, stop-start traffic, you'll see closer to 8-9. With the 63-litre tank that's still a comfortable 600-plus kilometres between fills, so on a normal week of city driving and a couple of airport runs you're stopping for fuel maybe twice.
A few practical points. At 4.94 metres it's a long car, so tight multi-storey bays and Marina ramps need a bit of patience, though the parking sensors and camera take the stress out of it. Salik tolls run on your account and any RTA fines pass to you, so keep to the posted limits, the cameras here are relentless. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, front and back.
Rent the A6 if the inside of the car matters to you: client pickups, a quieter family week, anyone who wants the look and calm of a premium German sedan without leaving a big deposit. It's the comfort-and-cabin choice, and at this rate it feels like more car than you paid for.
Skip it if you're after a hard-charging drive or you genuinely need all-wheel grip, since this is the front-drive 45 TFSI, not the quattro. And if it's just two of you doing city errands, a smaller sedan saves fuel and parks easier. But for four adults who want to arrive feeling like the trip was worth it, this is the one I'd hand you the keys to.
