Audi A3 2024 - start from 226 AED / day

The Audi A3 2024 with the 1.5-litre turbo is the version of this compact sedan that makes the most sense for a week in Dubai, and you can rent it from us at 18 rather than the 21 most desks insist on. This is the efficient, easygoing A3: a premium badge and a properly finished cabin without the fuel habit or the price of the hotter quattro car. Our argument is simple. If you want Audi quality for city driving, airport runs and a few highway stretches, and you're not chasing outright pace, the 150 hp A3 gives you almost all of the appeal for less to run. The trade is rear space and clearance, and we'll be straight about both.

The cabin you're actually paying for

This is where the A3 earns the badge. The 2024 car runs Audi's digital driver's display and a central touchscreen angled toward you, with crisp graphics and real menus rather than a budget afterthought. The materials on the surfaces your hands touch are a clear step above the mainstream compacts, and the doors shut with a weight that tells you what you've rented. After a week in an ordinary sedan, the difference is obvious the moment you sit in.

It's a five-seater, and the front is excellent: roomy, with a low, planted driving position. Two adults up front and two kids behind works for a week of mall trips and school runs. Put a tall adult behind a tall driver, though, and the rear tightens quickly on a longer drive. The A3 seats five on paper, but four adults on a DXB run with cases is where it starts to feel borrowed from a smaller car.

The table is the reference. The numbers that shape your week are the economy, the boot and the low clearance, so the prose below reads them rather than repeating them.

Running it cheaply for a week

Fuel is the easy win with this engine. The 1.5 turbo returns around 6 litres per 100 km in mixed driving, and with a 55-litre tank that's comfortably over 800 km between fills. A normal Dubai week of errands, a few highway runs and an airport trip means one fill, often with fuel to spare when you hand it back. This is the A3 to take if the fuel bill is part of the decision.

The 150 hp engine isn't quick the way the quattro version is, and the 8.4-second run to 100 km/h is honest about that. In daily use it doesn't matter. The turbo pulls cleanly from low revs, so slotting into a gap on Sheikh Zayed Road or finishing an overtake on the E11 happens without drama. It's a refined, relaxed thing rather than a fast one, and for the driving a Dubai week actually involves, that suits it well.

Will the luggage fit

The boot holds 425 litres, which is genuinely useful for a compact sedan and better than several rivals. Two people with a large hard case each plus a couple of soft bags fit without a fight, so a couple flying in for a week is well covered. Drop the rear seats and longer items go in too. Where it argues back is a full car of four adults each with a big suitcase heading to the airport. That's the point to size up to an A4. For most rentals, a couple or a small family, the boot is no obstacle.

Heat, and a parked cabin at 45 degrees

Renters ask about this more than anything else, and the A3's compact cabin works in your favour. There's less air to cool, so the front vents hit hard and the system pulls a sun-baked interior down to comfortable within a few minutes rather than the long wait a big cabin needs. Park in shade or a basement where you can and it's quicker still. Rear passengers get their own vents, so kids in the back aren't left baking while the front cools first. For a Dubai summer this small premium sedan handles the heat better than its size might suggest.

Living with a low sedan

At under 4.5 metres the A3 tucks into tight Marina bays and multi-storey slots that defeat larger cars, and the reversing aids make the fiddly ones easy. The flip side is the modest ground clearance. This is a low, road-biased sedan, so aggressive speed bumps and the steeper mall ramps need a slow, square approach, and a fully loaded car wants more care still. Keep it on tarmac and well away from soft sand; it's not built to leave the road.

Two admin points the desk always flags. Salik tolls run on the car's tag and are billed to you, and any RTA fine during the rental passes to the renter, so mind the cameras on the E11. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, front and back.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the 1.5 A3 if you want a premium badge, a genuinely classy tech-led cabin and low running costs, and your typical load is one or two people with a case or two. For solo business trips, couples and small families doing mostly city miles with the odd highway run, it's one of the most sensible premium compacts we hand over, and it sips fuel doing it.

Step up to the 201 hp quattro A3 if you want real pace and all-weather grip, or to an A4 if you regularly carry four adults and full airport luggage. If clearance and rear room matter more than a low, sleek sedan, a compact premium SUV like the Q3 is the smarter call. But if quality and economy are the priorities and outright space isn't, the 1.5 A3 is the value pick of the range.
