Settle one comparison before you book, because the LX, the Toyota Land Cruiser and the German full-size SUVs solve different weeks. If you rent a Lexus LX in Dubai from us, we deliver it free to your villa, hotel or the airport and collect it at the end. Under the skin the LX shares its frame and running gear with the Land Cruiser, so the toughness is identical. What the Lexus adds is a far plusher cabin. Our position is simple: the LX is the luxury way to do the big-SUV family week, and only serious dune ambitions should send you elsewhere.

Land Cruiser bones, business-class cabin

The current LX 600 sits on the same body-on-frame platform as the Land Cruiser 300, with a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 making 409 horsepower. That shared hardware is the best thing about it. You get the durability and the genuine four-wheel-drive system the platform is famous for, wrapped in a cabin the Toyota doesn't attempt: semi-aniline leather, real sound insulation, a ride tuned for hush rather than utility.

The difference is obvious within a kilometre. Where the Land Cruiser feels like an expensive tool, the LX feels like a lounge that happens to have low-range gearing. Same bones, different mission.

Against the German full-sizers

A GLS or an X7 is the other direction people look, and on pure tarmac manners the Germans are lovely: car-like steering, air-sprung composure, badges everyone reads. The LX answers with two things they can't match. First, the underpinnings shrug off the rough stuff, so the graded track to a wadi and the Hatta back roads never worry it. Second, the platform's reliability record in this heat is why the region trusts it for serious mileage.

If your fortnight never leaves smooth tarmac and the badge matters, the Germans are a fair pick. If the itinerary includes anything unpaved, the LX is the safer bet by a distance.

The family week it's built for

Seven seats, and the middle row is genuinely spacious for adults on the two-hour runs. The third row suits kids full-time and adults for shorter legs. Luggage is the part to plan: with all seven seats up the boot takes soft bags and a stroller, not a wall of suitcases, so for a full-house airport arrival fold part of the third row or let us deliver the car to your accommodation instead.

Two honest caveats. The twin-turbo V6 is thirsty when worked, so budget fuel stops on an Al Ain or Fujairah day. And this is a wide, tall vehicle. Marina and older mall parking structures need patience and the cameras, and valet is often the kinder option Downtown.

When the Land Cruiser is the better tool

We rent both, so there's no incentive to steer you wrong. For the Hatta road, wadi tracks, a graded desert route and a family weekend that touches sand, the LX has all the hardware it needs. For a trip built around proper dune driving, take the Land Cruiser instead. Its trim ladder runs to versions with the full off-road kit, and hosing desert out of a utilitarian cabin beats doing it to semi-aniline leather.

Put plainly: the LX for the plush week that includes rough roads, the Land Cruiser for the rough weekend that includes some roads.

الأسئلة الشائعة — إجابات على الأسئلة المتكررة.

Should I rent the Lexus LX or the Toyota Land Cruiser?

Take the LX when comfort leads the trip: same frame and four-wheel-drive hardware as the Land Cruiser, with a far plusher cabin and quieter ride. Take the Land Cruiser when the trip is built around hard off-road use, since its range includes more purpose-focused versions and you'll worry less about the interior. For a family week of highways, Hatta and a graded track or two, the LX is the nicer place to spend the hours. Tell us the itinerary and we'll be straight about which one it calls for.

Can the LX handle a desert weekend?

Yes, within reason: it carries real four-wheel drive, low-range gearing and the ground clearance for graded desert routes, wadi tracks and moderate sand work. Aired-down tyres and sensible lines will get it through a standard desert camp weekend without drama. It's a heavy, luxuriously trimmed vehicle though, so sustained soft-dune driving is better done in a Land Cruiser or a dedicated desert 4WD. Keep the LX for the journey and the camp, not repeated dune runs.

Will I get the LX 600 or an older LX 570?

Both generations exist in Dubai fleets: the current LX 600 with the twin-turbo V6, and the previous LX 570 with the 5.7-litre V8. Both are equally tough underneath. The 600 adds the newer cabin and better fuel use, and the 570's V8 has its loyalists. You'll know the exact car and year at booking, and if you have a preference we'll check the dates against the fleet.

Does a family of seven's luggage fit in the LX?

Not with all seven seats occupied, if you mean full-size suitcases: the space behind the third row takes soft bags, a stroller and the shopping. For the airport leg, drop one side of the third row and stack the cases there. With the third row down entirely, the LX swallows a family's fortnight of luggage easily. If it's tight, we'll tell you before arrival rather than at the kerb.

Is the LX hard to live with in Dubai parking?

It asks more of you than a mid-size SUV, since it's wide and tall enough that older mall structures and tight Marina ramps need slow speeds and the 360 camera. Newer malls with generous bays are no problem, and valet solves the rest Downtown. On the open road the size vanishes into an effortless cruise. If your week is mostly tight urban parking rather than distance, you may not need a full-size car at all, and we'll say so.
